The Rohingya displaced from Myanmar are ready to return home with their rights, said Dr. Khalilur Rahman, High Representative and National Security Advisor on Rohingya.

He said this while briefing journalists on the second day of the international dialogue organized in Cox’s Bazar on the Rohingya crisis.

He also said, “On the first day of the dialogue, the Rohingya directly expressed their experiences, problems and expectations. This was a historic opportunity, because for the first time they were able to express their voices under one roof. Our main goal is to raise their united voice at the upcoming UN conference and ensure safe repatriation through regional cooperation with neighboring countries.”

Dr. Khalilur Rahman said that this dialogue has been organized in view of the upcoming high-level international conference on Rohingya to be held at the UN Headquarters on September 30.

Highlighting the main aspects of the dialogue, Dr. Khalilur Rahman said that six issues have gained special importance:

1. The voice of the Rohingya: Their participation in solving the problem must be ensured.

2. Repatriation: The Rohingya want to return to their homeland safely and permanently with dignity.

3. International assistance: Reducing uncertainty in food, medical care, education and other essential services is essential.

4. Dialogue and trust-building: Building trust and confidence among different parties is essential.

5. Myanmar’s criminal activities: Resolution is necessary for local and regional stability.

6. Full accountability: Accountability must be ensured for those responsible for crimes committed against the Rohingya.

The National Security Advisor said, “The Bangladesh government is actively addressing the Rohingya crisis and political leaders have also expressed support. International and regional partners are ready to cooperate in this solution. We hope that this proposal for dialogue will play an effective role in the upcoming UN conference.”

International organizations, experts and representatives of the Rohingya community participating in the dialogue presented proposals for solving the problem from different angles.

Dr. Khalilur Rahman said that the issues discussed will be used to ensure the safe, dignified and permanent repatriation of the Rohingyas with the cooperation of the international community and neighboring countries.

He specifically mentioned, “I urge neighboring countries to work together to address the conflict situation in Myanmar and the security risks created at the border.”

Foreign Secretary Asad Alam Siam, Deputy Press Secretary to the Principal Advisor Abul Kalam Azad Majumder and Director General of the Public Diplomacy Wing of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Shah Asif Rahman were present at the briefing. The dialogue will end tomorrow. Source: BSS
